Let’s get started with our easy 5 step process
Step 1 – Gathering Information
The people who you will need to involve in the process are as follows:
1. The ‘Donor’ – The donor is the person who wants to make the LPA (i.e your elderly Father)
2. The ‘Attorneys’ – The attorneys are are the trusted people that the donor chooses to ‘act’ on their behalf (i.e the Father’s Son &/or Daughter or trusted friend)
3. The ‘Certificate Provider‘ – The Certificate Provider is the role given to an impartial person who helps protect the donor’s interests by checking that the donor understands the LPA and is making it of their own free will (i.e this could be a family friend or neighbour)
For each of the above we would need you to supply the following information:
– Title (Mr/Mrs/Ms etc)
– First Names
– Last Name
– Date of Birth
– Home Address
– Email Address (optional)
(No banking details are required at any stage of the process)
There will also be a few brief questions about the Donor’s preferences.
Step 2
Filling out your online LPA documents
• Using your information supplied (above) we will create and finalize your online LPA documents. At this point we request paying our fixed fee (which includes the OPG registration fee of £82) as this guarantees your application and registration with the UK Governments LPA registration body, The Office of Public Guardian.
Step 3
Printing out your documents ready for signing and checking
• We will print out your LPA papers, prepare them for you and your attorneys to sign, and either send them to you or deliver them in person. Once they are ready, we will collect and review your documents.
Step 4
Sending your LPA documents to the OPG for registration
• We will take your signed LPA’s to the Post Office for you and send them to The Office of Public Guardian (OPG) for registration (via Special Delivery included in our fee).
Step 5
Keep you updated on the progress of your LPA documents
• After receiving your documents, the Office of Public Guardian will verify, register, and stamp them before returning them to you as your officially registered LPAs. This step in the process may take up to 20 weeks, so it’s crucial not to delay in getting things started.
